XgenPlus Empowered RFRF With Its Linguistic Email Service

Research for Resurgence Foundation (RFRF), which is a wing of the RSS’s Bharatiya Shikshan Mandal, has launched its own local language email domain called Pata.domain in order to create several Indian-centric technological products, including an Indian search engine. The data center to store all the emails under it is said to be located in Nagpur.

Mukul Kanitkar, the national organizing secretary of BSM and the man behind the project was quoted by Indian Express saying, “We are thinking about a total Bharatiya Internet. Not only with email ID, but search engine, then Bharatiya domain name, websites, content, and everything. That is the plan we are working on.”

The organization is also said to be looking into the security aspect of the platform. However, Kantikar does mention that it will take time considering the use of imported hardware. He was further quoted saying, “If you are using a Cisco router and a Chinese connector, you cannot be sure that your data is private.” That said, the organization is also working with startup and Indian-made wires and chips in order to encourage routers and connector manufacturing in India. 

While the service was launched at an RFRF event at Vigyan Bhavan on Saturday, the organization is currently researching algorithm that will help promote indigenous content on their local language search engine. Kantikar states that currently any search done on the internet gives out western references first. While there is nothing wrong with it, he does claim that if they are able to do it in Gondi, then they can get their own reference as well.

Kantikar believes that having a local language search engine will change the common psychology among people that knowing English is required to use the Internet. He also aims to change the Indian internet from being a video entertainment platform to making it more educational.

RFRF is currently working with Data XGen Technologies, which is the first linguistics email platform in India. The two organizations signed an MoU last month. RFRF will also paying XGen a fee of a few lakh rupees for its services, which is said to increase as its services increases.

The Pata.bharat domain will be for public use and will feature seven Indian scripts, which include Bangla, Gujarati, Punjabi, Telugu, Hindi, English, Tamil, and Urdu. It will correspond with 14 Indian languages and will also be pushed to partner universities of RFRF.
